About This Car

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 represents the final and most extreme evolution of the 997 generation GT3. Introduced in 2011 and limited to just 600 examples worldwide, it brought together several important strands of Porsche history in a single road car. It was the ultimate development of the analogue 997 GT3 platform, the final road going GT3 powered by the legendary Mezger engine architecture, and one of the clearest expressions of the philosophy Andreas Preuninger and Porsche’s GT department had been refining for more than a decade.

At its heart is a 4.0 litre naturally aspirated flat six producing 500 HP at 8,250 rpm and 460 Nm at 5,750 rpm. Most significantly, the crankshaft was taken unchanged from the contemporary 911 GT3 RSR race engine, while titanium connecting rods link it to forged pistons. At 125 HP per litre, Porsche described it at launch as having the highest specific output of any naturally aspirated engine in its production range. This was achieved without turbocharging and while retaining the response, linearity and high revving character that had come to define the Mezger powered GT cars.

The additional displacement transformed more than the headline power figure. Compared with the 3.8 litre RS, the 4.0 delivered substantially greater torque throughout the rev range, while still building towards an 8,500 rpm limit. The result was an engine with genuine tractability at lower speeds, but one that became progressively more intense as it approached the top of the tachometer. Exactly the type of character Preuninger wanted from Porsche’s GT cars.

The rest of the car was developed with the same mentality. Carbon fibre was used for the bonnet and front wings, lightweight bucket seats were fitted, the rear glazing was made from lightweight plastic and weight optimised carpeting was used throughout. With a full tank of fuel, the RS 4.0 weighed just 1,360 kg, giving it a power to weight ratio of less than three kilograms per horsepower. It remained exclusively available with a six speed manual transmission and rear wheel drive. Porsche quoted 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, less than twelve seconds to 200 km/h and a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap time of 7 minutes 27 seconds.

The RS 4.0 also marked the end of an era. The Mezger based GT3 lineage had started with the 996 GT3 and was developed continuously through the 997 generation. When the 991 GT3 arrived, Porsche moved to a new engine family and PDK transmission. The RS 4.0 therefore became the final expression of the manual, naturally aspirated, Mezger powered GT3 formula. Lightweight construction, rear wheel drive, a six speed manual gearbox and direct motorsport derived engineering gave it a character that later GT cars would approach very differently.

Our example was delivered new in 2011 and retains its original engine. It has had only one registered owner since new and, having covered just 8,750 kilometres, presents as an exceptionally preserved example of the model.

Finished in Carrara White over a black Clubsport interior, the car remains completely in its factory paint. The bodywork is remarkably well preserved, without notable stone chips, damage or visible imperfections.

The Clubsport specification includes the highly desirable carbon backed bucket seats derived from the Carrera GT, reinforcing both the motorsport character and the special nature of the RS 4.0. Combined with its low mileage, single registered ownership and exceptional originality, the specification is particularly well suited to the model.

The car remains fully original and is accompanied by a history consistent with its mileage and provenance.

Finding a GT3 RS 4.0 is uncommon in itself. Finding one that combines one registered owner since new, fewer than 9,000 kilometres, its original engine, complete first paint and such an exceptional level of preservation is considerably more difficult. This is a near perfect example of one of the most significant Porsche GT cars of the modern era.
